6th Grader asks ,"when are we actually going to do some math problems?"

In Uncategorized on September 8, 2008 at 9:35 pm

“your 6th grader may love the school, but have you looked at his/her math book? I think if people take the time and look at the math workbook that is brought home they would be horrified. This is clearly not math and as I quoted my 6th grader, “when are we actually going to do some math problems? Writing about numbers is not math. I had a conversation with aanother parent last week and we agreed that if people actually saw this “math” workbook in the spring, the lightbulbs would have gone on rather quickly”

  1. 6th Grader asks ,”when are we actually going to do some math problems?”

How often will this apocryphal question be posted on this blog?

  2. My fourth grader can finally answer that question. We just moved her to a parochial school and she came home all excited about math. She said “math is so easy!” I asked why and looked at the text to make sure they were actually on grade level (they were). Her response was “We just do math instead of talking about it all the time. And we don’t have to draw a lot of pictures, either.”

  3. In Ridgewood…not till high school. Don’t worry if you can’t do the math you will still pass the state tests with flying colors. And you will make Regina happy.
