Pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Code of the Village of Ridgewood, and the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40:55D-12, notice is hereby given that Barrier Aung, a non-profit corporation of the State of New Jersey, owner of the property commonly known as 506 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, New Jersey 07450, also known as Lot 1 in Block 4005 on the tax assessment map of the Village of Ridgewood, has filed an application with the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the Village of Ridgewood. The applicant is a non-profit Section 501(c)(3) foundation that wishes to use the property, and the residential building constructed upon it, as part of its mission to support the design of a healthier, more sustainable environment through education, research and outreach. Specifically (and without limitation), the applicant seeks to have a caretaker live at the property year-round; for visiting scholars and students to stay at the property on a temporary basis at various time during the year; for interns to stay at the property during the Summer months; to open the building and grounds to the general public for guided and self-guided tours and to conduct small group tours, such as by educational groups; to use the building for lectures, workshops and programs or service; and to conduct larger group tours and/or fund raising events on an occasional basis. The Village Zoning Officer has opined that these uses are not permitted in the R-1 Residential Zone where the property is located. As a result, the applicant seeks use variance relief. The applicant proposes no site improvements. The applicant will be prepared to describe its proposed uses in greater detail at the public hearing, and to set forth proposed conditions on those activities.

The applicant also seeks whatever other variances, waivers, deviations or exceptions the Board deems to be required.

A copy of the application and related documents are on file in the Office of the Secretary of the Village of Ridgewood Zoning Board of Adjustment, Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 N. Maple Ave., Ridgewood, New Jersey 07450, and may be inspected by members of the public, weekdays, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

A public hearing with respect to this application has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM, in the Courtroom of the Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 N. Maple Ave., Ridgewood, New Jersey 07450, or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard. All interested parties are invited to appear and be heard at that time. David L. Rutherford, Esq.

  1. Oh puleeeeeeze. This place is a dump. The esteemed Mr. Rose’s ideas are disrespected by the artifice that is preserved in his name.

  2. Yes, this sounds like hooey to me…”not for profit” means no taxes.

Kudos to the council for trying to end the charade….
